Phillips 2019 CB/WR Fabian McCray is without an offer, but is already seeing interest from big time programs. We discussed his offseason work with HEROH 7on7, what schools he’s been in touch with and I also got HEROH founder Chris James’ thoughts on McCray.

LPI: After an impressive week 1 win over Loyola, what are you going to do to take your game to the next level? Also, do you play any other sports or 7on7?

FM: In order to take my game to the next level, over the next week I’ll be studying film and looking at what I can do better in order to help my team come out on top again. Also, I run track and I played 7on7 with HEROH.

LPI: You currently don’t have any offers, but I think you can play at the next level. What skill set can you bring to the table for a college football program?

FM: I am able to play on both sides of the ball. Also I feel that my work ethic is very strong and I am able to out work and compete with anyone you put in front of me.

LPI: You currently excel at both DB and WR. How do you think those positions complement each other and help you as a player?

FM: By me playing both WR and DB, sometimes while I am on defense by the receivers alignment I already have an idea on what route he’s going to run so that helps a lot. On offense, based on whether the corner is shaded inside or outside that gives me a idea on what coverage the defense is in and off that I can adjust the way that I run my route to make things easier for my quarterback.

LPI: Which schools have shown serious interest in you and do you have any planned visits set?

FM: The latest schools that have shown the most interest are the University of Cincinnati and University of Minnesota. I currently have 1 planned visit down to Cincinnati in October.

LPI: Who are some of your teammates or training partners that you believe can play at the next level, but have gone overlooked by college coaches?

FM:

Craig Elmore RB/LB – One teammate who I believe has been overlooked. He has a couple offers but he is yet to receive a D1 offer, and which I know in fact that he could play D1 at the next level. He plays hard and fast every play. In my opinion no one can match his intensity on the field.

Anthony Davis OLB/RB – Another teammate who I believe has been overlooked mostly because of his injury last season, but this season he’s back and better. He’s one of the fastest in the state if not the fastest and very explosive off the ball. He is able to rush the quarterback or cover a slot or running back if he has to. He’ll turn lots of heads this season.

Breon Holmes FS/C – Another teammate that I think has what it takes to play at the next level he’s very intense and despite his size he won’t hesitate to hit or cover anyone no matter who they are.

Coach’s Corner

HEROH Foundation founder and HEROH 7on7 head coach Chris James on McCray on and off the field

“Fabian has the potential to be a great WR, with his size and ability. And he’s also a hard worker in the classroom, boasting a 4.0 GPA. His Junior Sesaon should be his breakout year!”
