A recent transfer from Glenbard East, Lake Park’s 2018 WR Keonta Nixon possesses a great blend of size and speed that will improve an already impressive Lancer offense. We discussed his current offers, what school he’s seen the most interest from and what’s next for his recruiting. Also got Lake Park Head Coach Chris Roll’s thoughts on Nixon.

LPI: What are doing this offseason to get ready for the season and take your game to the next level? Did you play 7on7 this year or were you in any other sports?

KN: This offseason I worked on improving my weaknesses and strengthening my strengths. I played 7v7 with TNT and I’ve seen great improvement from my time with them.

LPI: You currently have offers from Southern Illinois and Western Illinois. What skill set can you bring to the table for a college football program?

KN: I bring not only great athleticism and IQ of the game, but also a winning attitude.

LPI:Besides the schools that have offered, which schools have shown serious interest in you?

KN: Bowling Green State University.

LPI: Where have you visited most recently and do you have any planned visits set?

KN: I have visited ISU, NDSU, and Western Michigan. I currently do not have any planned visits set.

LPI: Who are some of your teammates or training partners that you believe can play atthe next level, but have gone overlooked by college coaches?

KN:

Jackson Behles QB – He has great arm strength and has the ability to put the ball wherever he wants. He conducts the offense very well too. At the end of the season I accept that he’ll have at least one offer.

Diamante Smith WR – Diamante is a big receiver that possesses the ability to go get the ball. At about 6’2″ 200 there aren’t many DB’s that could even match up with him. Diamante and I can and will do big things for this team. Just like Jackson I think someone will pull the trigger and offer him.

Solomon Sangobowale DB – He’s a football player, as simple as that. He makes plays. I think me and him will go at it every rep every day no matter what. He’s that type of guy that fears nobody and that should be the mindset of a defender. He’s an athletic strong corner that knows his job and can fit in any scheme. If I was a coach I’d offer him just because of how hard he works.

Coach’s Corner

Lake Park Head Coach Chris Roll on Nixon on and off the field

“Keonta just joined us about 3 weeks ago so I haven’t see him play much football. From his film I could tell he can play. I was much more concerned with if he would gel with our seniors. I have been very pleased to see that he has had a humble approach to joining a good group of seniors. With a returning starter at QB and returning WRs I am excited to see how Keonta fits into our offensive game plan. With the talent on the field every Friday night in the DVC, Keonta will be able to show what he can do against the best. I am looking forward to getting him on the practice field next week & finding his role on our team.”
