Springfield’s 2019 WR/S Cameron Jones is electric in space and as quick as they come. We talked FBS schools showing serious interest in him, his offseason work and his under the radar teammates. Springfield’s head coach Rich Gully also gave me his thoughts on Cameron on and off the field.

LPI: What are you going to do to take your game to the next level this offseason? Are you playing any other sports?
CJ: I am going through film from the previous season an watching the mistakes I made, and correct them before this up coming season. Also, working on my route running and foot work.
LPI: You currently don’t have any offers, but I believe you have what it takes to play at the next level. What skill set can you bring to the table for a college football program?
CJ: My skill set that I will bring is to spread out the defense for the offense to have more options to drive down the field. Being a decoy will confuse the defenders, thinking that I’m getting the ball but really not.
LPI: Which schools have shown serious interest in you?
CJ: Iowa, Miami of Ohio, Illinois, Western Michigan had shown true interest in me.
LPI: Where have you visited most recently and do you have any planned visits or camps/showcases set?
CJ: I had visited Iowa, Illinois, and last week Western Michigan. I am scheduled to attend the LSU elite camp towards the end of June.
LPI: Who are some of your teammates or training partners that you believe can play at the next level, but have gone overlooked by college coaches?
CJ: The teammates that I believe should be getting more attention are…
Wendel Burnes – He is one of the top corners in state in my opinion, always wants to compete and have fun.
Peyton West – Very strong, physical safety who should be getting more attention by coaches.
Lucas Rockford – Leader, always wants everyone to be the best they can be. They all are great players that have helped me compete and improve my game. They are all leaders in my opinion and always want others to get better.
Coach’s Corner
Springfield Head Coach Roy Gully on Jones on and off the field
“Cam is a great kid. He has good parents at home that keep him grounded and focused. He has set his goals high but has the type of ability and work ethic that can make those goals happen. He’s ultra-competitive and we’ve had to reel that in a few times, but he has really matured and should have 2 amazing seasons left to show the conference what he can do.”
