Player Primer: Jeff Jenkins

I got to know Prairie Ridge’s big 2018 OL Jeff Jenkins. We talked him working hard to stay fresh in season and where he plans on visiting this year.

You can find Jeff on Twitter @Jeffjenkins77.

LPI: What were the most important things you did this offseason and are now doing in practice so you can improve this season?

JJ: I think is the biggest thing is keeping myself healthy. In season I just keep resting my body, icing and making sure I’m fresh. You get sore sometimes going both ways in season! Off season, same thing, stay healthy. It’s different then with just not over using some lifts and keeping yourself fresh.

LPI: You’re sitting on an offer from Ball State. What are your greatest strengths or why should a school offer you?

JJ: I think a school getting me is getting one of the hardest workers when playing football or during the off season in our off season lifting program. I have a lot to offer to teams and I think people are noticing that.

LPI: Offer or not, which schools have you kept in contact with the most?

JJ: Ball state, Penn State, Minnesota, MSU, Navy, NIU, Illinois, Purdue and Boston College.

LPI: Where have you visited most recently and do you have any visits coming up?

JJ: I just visited Illinois. I’m going out to Purdue, Ball State, Minnesota and Penn State for sure. I may try and set up 1 or 2 more.

LPI: What’re your personal goals for this season?

JJ: To play as hard as I can for my brother standing next to me and just do my assignment each play and try to help our team win football games.

LPI: You guys are doing well so far this year at 5-0 beating very good teams in Cary-Grove and Huntley. What have you guys been doing more now than ever so you can make a deep run in the playoffs?

JJ: We are a small team so staying healthy is a big thing but really I think more then ever were playing for the guy next to us and we don’t want to let are brother down. Just going out there and playing very hard is something we pride ourselves on. We have some of the most unselfish kids and we’re just trying to do anything we can to win.

LPI: Prairie Ridge has some very good players in Samson Evans, Austen Ferbet and yourself receiving recruiting attention. Who are some of your teammates that you believe have a chance to play at the next level, but may be getting overlooked by college coaches?

JJ: Obviously those 2 are big names with very bright futures. But one person a lot of people forget about is our junior MLB Jacob Ommen. Pound for pound he likely the strongest kid on the team, is very aggressive and knows how to hit people hard. Just like everyone else on our team, Jacob lives in the weight room during the off season and I think colleges will start finding out about him soon because he is really good.
