Loyola’s 2019 S Jake Gonzalez talked schools showing serious interest in him, his under the radar teammates, as well as what is next for his recruiting. I also got Loyola head coach John Holecek’s thoughts on Gonzalez.

LPI: Tell me about what you’ve been doing this season to take your game to the next level. Also, do you play any other sports in the offseason or do you play 7on7?
JG: This season I’ve been trying to take my game to the next level by playing as hard as I can, as well as being a leader on the field. I play hockey in the offseason as well as lift and go to EFT when I am able to.
LPI: Do you have any offers? If not, which schools have shown serious interest in you?
JG: Schools that have shown interest include: Purdue, NDSU, Toledo, Northwestern, Lehigh, and other schools have sent me some letters but nothing more.
LPI: Do you have any planned visits set? If so, where at?
JG: With Loyola having most of our games on Saturdays, it’s pretty hard to go up to visit. Also, preparing for our next week, so I think I will take some visits after the season, but none until the season is over.
LPI: How do you go the extra mile for you teammates whether it be on or off the field?.
JG: I try to put my team before myself in every situation. As my second year playing in the defensive backfield, I think I have more of a leadership role on the team than last year as a sophomore.
LPI: Who are some of your teammates or training partners that you believe can play at the next level, but have gone overlooked by college coaches?
Rory Boos – He is very effective in our offense, and makes plays in every game helping our team win. He’s a junior, and I believe he will get some college looks in the offseason.
Armoni Dixon – Along with Noah Jones, he is a great player and they will both have opportunities to play at the next level, I have no doubt in my mind.
Pat Daniels – First year on the defense, junior, has made some big plays for us this year at outside linebacker.
Charlie Largay – Along with Quinn Boyle, these guys are great leaders and play key roles in the success of our team, I feel they have what it takes to play college football.
Loyola Head Coach John Holecek on Gonzalez on and off the field
“Probably the highest motor of anyone I have ever coached. Never gets tired or hurt and runs down everyone that breaks free with his tremendous speed. Has started 21 games in a row.”
